Confucianism and Chinese Political Culture

Ning Zhang’s book, “Confucianism in Contemporary Chinese Politics: An Actionable Account of Authoritarian Political Culture”, draws a packed house and generates engaged discussion.

Dr. Ning Zhang, and interlocutor Dr. Andrew Morris, discussed the development of and Confucian influences on contemporary Chinese political culture. The professors engaged the audience, and each other, in a dialogue that greatly complicates traditional Western/U.S. labels of Chinese politics as both strictly and solely authoritarian. Drawing on a shared focus on modern China, the professors shared important insights about the development of contemporary Chinese political culture and practice.
