Winner of the Outstanding Graduate Award: Alex Sletta

The Political Science department connected me to many opportunities, like the Western Political Science Association Conference where I presented a research project I created and conducted in my senior project.

The professors in the department have a wide variety of backgrounds that represent the range of careers possible with a BA in Political Science or a Master’s in Public Policy, including lawyer, political scientist, and diplomat. But I think the most impactful thing I experienced at Cal Poly was the passion my professors had for their areas of specialization, from voting rights and representation to Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5 as a representation of the struggle between the proletariat and the bourgeois. I learned a lot from this department because my professors genuinely made me want to learn.
