Chair's Message

Elizabeth Lowham

Welcome to the 2015-2016 Academic Year!

As we welcome over 100 new first year and transfer students to the department, I am pleased to be able to introduce three new faculty hires.

Amelia Andrews : Ph.D., Political Science, Purdue. Amelia (Mia) will be teaching largely in our graduate program. Mia brings expertise in environmental/agricultural policy that will help stabilize our ability to grow the MPP program.

Martin Battle: Ph.D., Political Science, The Washington University in St. Louis. Martin’s teaching centers on research methods at the graduate and undergraduate level. His current research focus investigates questions about comparative legislative practices and outcomes, with an emphasis on the Scottish Parliament.

Jenny Denbow: Ph.D. and J.D, Jurisprudence and Social Policy, UC Berkeley. Jenny teaches in our popular public law tracks. Jenny’s research centers on reproductive law and policy.

The addition of three new faculty allows the department to continue our commitment to providing high impact learning experiences for our growing student body: small classes, small group research experiences, service learning experiences, internships, study abroad and creative class activities that embody Cal Poly’s Learn by Doing philosophy.

Our faculty remain invested in our students and the learning experiences we can facilitate. Over the course of the year, I hope to be able to update you about all the great things happening in the Department!
