Rob Moore: ‘Not the typical Los Gatos Town Councilmember’
The 24-year-old is youngest on council by 30-plus years
At 24 years old, Rob Moore is the only Los Gatos Town Councilmember under 55 years old, and he is possibly the youngest councilmember to have ever been elected. Moore won his seat in November.
“I’m definitely not the typical Los Gatos Town Councilmember,” Moore said, “and I think that’s important.”
While the age gap between him and his fellow councilmembers is more than 30 years, Moore said he can bring a unique perspective and hopes to help represent voices that are traditionally left out of the council’s conversations, like younger people, the homeless population and marginalized communities.
The born-and-raised Los Gatan graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and works as a special projects manager for the San Jose Conservation Corps, a local nonprofit that gives disadvantaged youth good-paying jobs in the environmentalism field.

Rooted in experiential learning and public service, Capital Fellows spend 10-11 months as part of a cohort working in a Legislative, Executive or Judicial Branch office. Click here for more information.
Summer Programs
2023 Hertog War Studies Program
Applications for our Summer 2023 Hertog War Studies Program (HWSP) are now open! The War Studies Program aims to educate advanced undergraduate students about the theory, practice, organization, and control of war and military forces. The program is the cornerstone of ISW’s education efforts. Hertog War Studies will run next summer from July 28 to August 12.
The program is open to graduating seniors (Class of 2023), rising seniors (Class of 2024), and exceptional rising juniors (Class of 2025). HWSP is fully funded with a stipend, housing, travel, meals, and course materials provided.
War Studies is taught by ISW President Kimberly Kagan, Senior Fellow LTG Jim Dubik (US Army, Retired), and AEI Scholar Dr. Frederick W. Kagan.
Students will learn from and interact with distinguished senior leaders in the national security and military communities. This course bridges the civil-military divide and teaches students at the start of their careers how to assess military decision-making.
The final application deadline is March 1, 2023. Visit our page to learn more.

Student Volunteers Needed for Teach In
Calling All Students!
The 7th Annual Social Justice Teach In (hosted by CLA and OUDI) is this week on Thursday 2/9 and promises to be another great event! We are hoping to get a few more student volunteers to assist presenters with tech needs (e.g., letting participants into the waiting rooms), and sign-in sheets as well as contacting organizers if necessary. This is a great way to assist in the Teach In, while getting to listen to some excellent presentations by students, staff, and faculty experts across campus. Please see this link for times that volunteers are needed. Megan Rivoire in OUDI will follow up with more specific instructions.
See you at the Teach In!
