About Jennifer Alton

Jennifer Alton is a practicing attorney and the senior partner at Alton & Allen, Inc.  She concentrates on criminal law.  After passing the bar examination, she worked for the San Luis Obispo County Public Defender's Office.  In that capacity her annual work-load included thousands of criminal cases.  Currently, Jennifer Alton handles private criminal cases and appointed criminal and juvenile matters.  In addition, she is a law professor at the newly formed San Luis Obispo College of Law.    

Community involvement:

  • Jennifer Alton sits as a Judge Pro Tem for traffic trials, traffic arraignments and small claims cases.
  • She is the current Editor-in-Chief for the San Luis Obispo County Bar's publication, "The Bar Bulletin."  Prior to becoming Editor, she published dozens of legal articles and was honored  with the "Frank J. Pentangelo Award" for her contributions to this local bar journal. 
  • She sits on the Board for the San Luis Obispo County Bar Association.
  • She is a graduate of Leadership San Luis Obispo Class XXII

 

Jennifer Alton has always enjoyed mentoring and teaching. She has worked with the San Luis Obispo County High School Mock Trial Program as a scoring attorney. She has been the attorney-coach for the Mock Trial Team at Pacific Beach High School.  She has also been an Attorney-Coach and Competition Judge for the Cal Poly Mock Trial Team in previous years.  She has mentored over twenty (22) interns at her law firm, many of whom continued to law school, passed the bar exam, and commenced the practice of law.
